Why Late Summer Is A Good Time For Driveway Cleaning
Many people like to get their driveway completely relaid in summer, but in many cases, the surface itself will be in decent shape, but needs a good cleaning.
This begs the question of whether there is an ideal time of year for a thorough, professional driveway cleaning, or if any time will do. The experts will give you a clear answer to this: spring and summer are the best times.
For instance, Wash My House advises that summer is a good time to wash the driveway because it is a time when it collects a lot of dirt and debris, including grease and oil form vehicles parked outside and barbecues, debris like grass cuttings from lawn mowing, human foot traffic as people are outdoors more often, and fallen pollen from trees.
Since September is approaching and the start of autumn is therefore not far away, now is the time for driveway cleaning if you have not got it done already this summer.
The reason this matters is not just aesthetic, although that is part of the issue if the dirt is allowed to fester. There can also be damage to the driveway, such as through moss and seeds getting into any little cracks and growing there.
Worse still, any cracks that open up now, or in the autumn, may get a lot worse in winter when the temperature drops below zero. This is because the effects of freeze-thaw can take their toll; rainwater will seep into cracks and, as water and ice expand below four degrees C, the cracks will be prised wider apart.
This effect is useful in nature for breaking open rocks and releasing mineral nutrients, but it will damage the surface of a driveway, meaning you will need to resurface it sooner than if it were kept in good shape.
If you have a dirty driveway, don’t just rely on a brush and a couple of buckets of soapy water. Using our powerful cleaning tools, we can soon get it looking great and help extend its life.
